Epicurious Louisville

Louisville Kentucky is a treasure trove of amazing eats. I blog about them here. Y'all pull up a chair and sit awhile.

Mozz, Mozz, Mozz

I love fresh mozzarella. That’s an understatement—mozzarella is kind of a passion for me. I will never forget the time I first had fresh mozzarella, right out of a Whole Foods container, sprinkled with a little salt.

Mozzarella, fresh, is soft and clean and wonderful, dripping with whey, yielding under your teeth and slipping over your tongue, creamy. Mozz, on Market, has a mozzarella bar. That was really all I needed to know. So I packed up the babes after work and we visited Mozz. Mozz is swanky and snazzy and whatnot, with valet parking and lots of ostrich feathers, chandeliers, the works.

We ordered two cocktails (SO EXPENSIVE! Also: pet peeve! A happy hour that is only valid at the bar. FREAKING REALLY? WE ARE SPENDING MORE MONEY TO ORDER FOOD AT A TABLE AND YOU WANT TO CHARGE ME FULL PRICE FOR DRINKS DURING HAPPY HOUR?)

I admit I shelled out $12 for a Mozz cocktail because I have a drinking problem. We ordered a cheese sampler, a huge meat sampler, mussels, duck fat fries, a salad, and of course mimosas because we are CLASSY. And everyone knows classy ladies drink mimosas.

Service was attentive and the food came out fast. The standout of the evening was the Bufala mozzarella, made with the milk of water buffalo. The Bufala was firm with a texture like black olives. The best mozzarella, in my opinion, was the Burrata. Burrata means “buttered” and the hunk of soft cheese encased a creamy center, silky as butterfat.

The mussels were nice, duckfat fries were, well, duckfat FREAKIN fries, which means they were amazing, the meat was overrated, the cocktails were too expensive. The mozzarella was DIVINE.

Here’s the skinny on Mozz. LOVE the cheese, HATE the prices. If I wanted to pay that much money for some slices of meat (and they really do all taste the same, don’t they? I AM TIRED OF CHARCUTERIE) and a cocktail I would go to Proof and get some gelato. I mean the food was lovely, the service was lovely, and I wish every restaurant in the world had duck fat fries, and of course my dining companions were the best. Go for the Mozzarella, then leave for food and drink somewhere else!
