I want to talk to you for a second about Bunz Burgers, on Bardstown Road.
Now, I know I can get a little redundant with my talk of cheeseburgers this, hamburgers that. But the humble hamburger is my very favorite food because it’s completely allowable on my diet (minus the bun, of course) and it’s so easily customizable. There are so many things you can do to make your burger special, and Bunz on Bardstown is doing lots of them.
My fiance had one of the special burgers on the board, not a regularly offered burger, one patty with swiss cheese and a pineapple ring. He really liked it, but he was SO jealous of my burger, the Red State Bunz with Habagardil Pickles, pepperjack cheese, grilled jalapenos and onions, hot sauce, mayo, and an added fried egg. The meat was well seasoned and soft, not cooked to order but for the price ($7.00 plus an extra $1 for the egg) it was amazing. The fries that came were mysteriously salty sweet, golden, crisp, perfect. I am not a fries girl and I even sneaked a few. The little building was cozy, eclectic, classic Bardstown.
The staff was cheerful, bantering with my and my fiance, offering me lettuce instead of a bun, telling me how they felt about their burgers and what seasons the fries. The food came out fast and it was good to the last bite. Bunz is often open late to accommodate the Bardstown Road nightlife, and the next time I leave O’Shea’s hungry as a horse I will be trotting my spike-heeled rear end right over to Bunz. AMAZING.
