Eiderdown is the place you need to be if you’re craving an exceptional beer and/or upscale, flavorful, German influenced food in Louisville, Kentucky. This gastro-pub has an atmosphere that’s one part cute cottage, one part Urban Outfitters catalog, and one part southern bed & breakfast. There are rustic wooden benches and exposed brick walls, and the sun happens to beam in perfectly during the lunch hours.
Alright, enough about the atmosphere, let’s talk yummies.
Although the Duck Fat Popcorn was hard to pass up, we got the soft, hot, buttery, salty pretzel sticks as an appetizer. By far the best pretzel bread I’ve ever had {I order it almost everywhere it’s offered}, Eiderdown’s is served with your choice of two of their made-in-house mustards.
My boyfriend ordered the Nachburger, which is local grass fed beef and bacon, ground together and formed into an enormous patty, served on a brioche bun that I happened make at the local bakery where I work!
Since being vegetarian limits me on my choices, I went with the only vegetarian option they offer. Their Spaetzle tasted like Thanksgiving. Delicious butternut squash, parsnips, turnips, walnuts, onion, and goat cheese, all held together with sage brown butter.
Do yourself a favor and pay Eiderdown a visit the next time your tummy rumbles.
